A Serpent’s Lure

Amongst great crowds she walks

Yet only to me she appears

Her sweet whispers I follow blindly

Leading me to the unknown

In secrecy, she reveals herself

An unfamiliar face I see

Not one of a killer

But one of allure

So though strange she may be

Her beauty masks the truth

In her traps, many have fallen

And so I fall too

Not by lust, but greed

For empty promises she speaks

So a prisoner I become

But though I blame my captor

Only I am at fault
