Memories

Memories swim around my head

Like fishes in the deep blue sea

These salty tears I shed

Reflecting what I’ve come to be

A mirror of the past, victimized by youth

Trapped in time’s prison cell

My vision altered by the truth

And what could be seen as possibility

Was instead seen as a crime

And with restricted mobility

I was forced to make the climb

But I only ever saw the light

When I threw the past away

And my cold, dark lonely night

Became as bright as a summer day
